Resign players mid season?

Are we able to sign players to a contract extension mid season, or is that only afterwards? (franchise mode)

Unfortunately, you can only re-sign players after their current contract is up and only during the offseason.

No it is not. This is one of the most annoying things about the game. After the world series ends you get 5 days to try re-sign them before they're on the market. In real life you can extend contracts pretty much anytime, although some players set a cutoff date early in the year to avoid distraction, and other leagues (like the NBA) do have extension deadlines.
