Over the past few years, I've contributed to/developed my own rosters for the NBA 2k series, as well as the EA NHL series (NHL Revamped), but MLB The Show has become my favorite series by far.
While playing MLB 17, I started thinking about making a roster for the series. I worked on developing a ratings calculator, from scratch, and started testing in-game, while basing ratings on The Show's sim engine.
This year, I have released my work for all to enjoy. It includes re-rates of all MLB players based on data collected from Baseball Reference and FanGraphs. A weighted average has been used, based on 3 years of data (when possible).
If fewer than 3 years of data are used, as many as possible will be used, and regression is applied.
For rookies on MLB rosters, or for players who are on MLB rosters who were inactive last year, projections (Marcel/Steamer/ZiPS) are used
Full pitch edits are included using Brooks Baseball's data.
The excellent OSFM Opening Day roster is the base, so all teams will have full minor league systems in place.
Default contracts are used as I feel that the game works best that way.
These rosters were developed with franchise mode in mind as that is my favorite mode, and I'm strictly an offline player.
Full 40 man rosters are set, as of opening day. Injured/suspended players are in single A and will remain on 40 man roster.
Notes
In franchise, I suggest making the following changes to sliders when simming games:
-starter stamina: 5
-reliever stamina: 0
I suggest using the following trade frequency settings:
April & May: 1
June-July 15th: 3
July 15th-July 31st: Max
Rest of Season: 5
Offseason & Spring Training: 6
However, one thing I noticed right away is that--regardless of trade frequency slider setting--teams will trade a lot early in the season. I use 30-team control, so what I did, and what I would suggest others do, is set CPU teams trading to "manual" for April and May.
For drafted players, I would suggest making edits during the offseason as The Show's draft logic/player generation is still a bit off (based on what I've seen in the CPU draft thread).
I will be doing the following:
-If RP/CP is selected in rounds 1-3, I will convert them to SPs.
-For the top 10 picks, if the player is 21 or older, OVR = potential - 20
-For the top 10 picks, if the player is under 21, OVR = potential - 30
For the first 2 rounds, I will try to make sure players project to fit into the following archetypes:
-Power hitter
-Contact hitter
-Balanced/All-Around hitter
-5 tool player (top picks)
-Strikeout pitcher
-Control pitcher
-Groundball pitcher
-Balanced pitcher
