Right. We use statcast sprint speed to determine speed for major leaguers, and Bill James speed scores for minor leaguers. Those include steals, but also other signals, such as triples and runs.

If you have suggestions to improve minor league speed, we'd be happy to listen.

I was just responding to the poster that osfm (ridin) doesn't change attributes, if that was the roster he was referring to. To his comment of speeds being to low. It was nothing to you guys about how you edit attributes.

Two things. First, despite there being answers in the thread, it's not on the OP so I'll forgive you for not searching through that massive pile of 11 pages of posts to find it.

Second, again, benefit of the doubt because your join date is kinda new, asking when these rosters will be ready is like talking about a perfect game in the 8th inning. Don't do it.

The question just doesn't need to be asked. There is no beneficial reason to anyone, including yourself, other than making them answer it and not work on the roster.

We're pulling statcast pitch data, which is the same data Brooks draws from. It's ball and swinging strike based, but with a few adjustments to smooth out the edges.

Results look really promising. I can't wait until we can start releasing.
Just two cents from a guy who was in the neighborhood, but I wouldn't consider data from Statcast and Brooks Baseball to be analogous even if they are both pulling from MLBAM. I find the Statcast pitch data to be pretty underwhelming and less accurate than what's at Brooks (I also vaguely remember reading a FiveThirtyEight dot com article on Statcast pitch inaccuracies).

When comparing both websites last year--I wanted to use Statcast because it is easier to download and has fancy additions like spin rate--I noticed that lots of guys would have both sinker and 2-seamer (they shouldn't and it shows the arbitrariness of their pitch detection methods) and there were also significant discrepancies between slider and curveball along with no data at all on pitch grips.

I think Brooks' experience with PITCHf/x and their method of manually classifying pitches ultimately makes them superior and your data set will have fewer oddities in it. I'd also recommend checking out Baseball Prospectus' website because they host Brooks Baseball data there and you can sort/copy/paste by pitch type without grinding through hundreds of individual player cards.

tl:dr - Statcast is phenomenal for things like sprint speeds, pop times, launch angles, and all manner of sorting/collecting data, but I wouldn't use them for pitch edits.

Can’t wait for the roster. Thanks for doing it again. I just have 1 question. It seems in years past that most pitchers with a sinker, get switched to a 2sfb in the hybrid roster. I’m just curious why that is. I can barely tell the difference in the game, but I’m curious why it’s done

It's usually about the pitchers ball Movement.
