MLB The Show 18 The Little Things

A thread made every year .. With the game releasing on the 23rd for early release and knowing fellow OS’ers are probably on the hunt now for a early copy, figured we get this thread started .

The bat color in the Swing analysis is the batters bat color instead of a generic color. Something that’s small but a great touch for authenticity!!!

Stadiums seem to have gotten a nice detail pass. It feels like most of the garish legacy art, like the pixelated dugout clock, is gone. Also, little things like the subtle glow around ceiling lights in the bullpen. Also the foliage on trees outside Minute Maid park really jumped out at me.

Don't remember if this was in last year, but the dugouts have discarded cups and sunflower seed shells on the ground. It feels like there are lots of little touch ups, lighting details, and added subtle touches that liven the ballparks up a lot.

A lot more batter vs. pitcher matchup stats in a Franchise. I heard t a few times a game last year. And in 18', it's a lot more frequent whether Vasgersian says Hanley is 4-17 w/ 2 HR's off Tanaka or it shows up in an OSD in the top corner.

Noticeable more frequent and has added to the immersion of a division matchup.

When searching for a player you will now see the ML logo over the players heads. If a player is in a minor league affiliate the ML logo appears over head. I had requested this and the guys came thru. Thank you.

Looks so much more realistic having someone strikeout on the heat and be late .. the animations match it perfectly .. trying to catch up

A nice cool little touch I happen to catch D'backs manager signal a steal and I saw it but thought it was window dressing and it was a real call. Check this little video. This was in Franchise.

Saw a neat new replay of a shot above the plate, i threw a slider that missed the plate but was called a strike and it used that replay to show how it missed.

Playing against the braves and pitcher Peter Moylan was introduced by matt as the submariner from down under and how it was fitting.

I hit an RBI double in a close game the 8th inning with Didi and the emotion he displayed when he got to 2B was amazing! I also got a big strikeout with Severino in the bottom of the 6th and his emotion was great. He also pointed up towards the sky as he walked back towards the dugout.

I love all the new emotions. It adds a lot to the game.

The announcers talking about Judge's breakout year and the "Judge's Chambers" is also a cool detail.

I also heard matt say the hitters avg against the pitcher, "choo comes in as a 316 hitter, his taken him deep once" vs braves McCarthy.

Edit: i never played much rtts but when i did i never heard or saw what my players history was against pitchers which lead me to believe that it doesn't track pitcher batter matchups for created players. Is this true and if so i hope it has been added or can be added in the future.

As someone who just retired MLB 2k13 to pick up The Show for the first time, I'm sure I'll be posting in here a lot.

Some things I picked up on last night:

-Matt Vasgersian talked about Jon Gray playing for Oklahoma. I would expect this from Madden or 2K, but it was nice for me personally to see a MLB game give a nod to college ball. Same with Dansby & Vandy
-In the same vein and as posted above, Matt V talking about Moylan throwing down under was great.
-Different ballparks have different angles for their bullpen cameras.
And may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I'm seeing a LOT of dialogue about players, where they were drafted (Goldy 25th round etc), and their histories.

I love it, because it makes the broadcast feel a bit more organic. I just hope they've recorded multiple lines for multiple players or I'll run out quickly.
