    Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread

    Okay boys and girls since we have an early release this year it's time to get the new 18 RTTS thread going.I will be bringing over my Cardinal 1st baseman from 17 which I purposefully stopped in April 2018 so I could start him at least with the right schedule. Hopefully he won't lose to much with the new archetypes all though he has good equipment I hope that still counts. I am thinking of making a solid all around CF this year and going all out to make him a 5 tool guy , I am hoping I can get drafted by my beloved Cardinals if not then my 1st baseman will have to suffice. Good luck to all the RTTS guys, I love this mode and can't wait to get started this year. Thanks to SDS for the RTTS love.

    Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread

    Just finished up my 4th season on a CF I made in 17. Played every AB and fielding. Was drafted by the Cubs. Spent one year in minors. They traded Schwarber, moved me to LF and I found myself in the opening day lineup for the 18 season.

    Hit .294/8hr/45RBI/45SB in 2018 and won the world series. In the off-season was traded to the Blue Jays.

    Hit .317/21hr/74rbi/55sb in 2019. Made the all star team. Made the playoffs but lost in ALCS.

    Just finished up the 2020 season
    Hit .329/31hr/104rbi/51sb. Missed the playoffs by 2 games finished 84-78.

    Another all star team. Silver slugger and finished 3rd in Gold glove voting.

    This Jays team seems poised for a rebuild. Tulo retired. JD is getting old. And there are only 2 guys higher then an 80 overall. Could be a long next few seasons until I reach the FA market.

    Be fun to carry him over. I actually like the archetypes will limit my player a bit more.

      I'm definitely doing one as a pitcher, which I've never gone far with before. I wasn't gonna do one as a hitter, but I think I will given the archetypes and such now. Most of the time, I've been a speedy infielder. Debating on a power corner or a Mr. Reliable type outfielder. Should be fun.

        I will bring over my MVP CF, who should hot Free Agency after his next season, and see how the archetypes will affect him. If I find the penalties of the archetypes on my new players too much I may keep playing them in 17.

        Same goes for my Knuckleball throwing starting pitcher.

        I am kind of not interested in starting yet another new career again this year.

          Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread

          I am not a very good MLB The Show hitter, so I have started a Pitcher RTTS player in MLB 17 the other day that will get carried over into MLB 18. Despite not being a very good batter, luckily I was drafted by a NL team (the Pirates) so I will get some batting opportunities however I am still on the fence with wanting to be either a "Control Freak" or the "Plain Filthy" archetype pitcher in 18. Control is good, but I like the idea of being filthy.

          My pitcher is doing well so far on the Altoona Curve Pirate's Double A squad. But it is a last place team with one of the worst offenses in the Eastern League. Run support is hard to come by. I even lost a game tonight 2-0 where I gave up both runs on 5 hits, 9 strike outs in 7 well pitched innings. But my offense only mustered up 2 hits for me while I was in the game and 2 more hits after I was replaced for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the 7th.

          It should be an interesting RTTS journey and it is refreshingly fun to play in Double A.

            I am totally pumped to see what 18 RTTS is going to look like on my new PS4 Pro, I bet it's going to look glorious. I love me some game play and eye candy.

              Going to carry over my CF career who is rn in his 8th mlb season. Also going to carry over my sinker pitcher who is on his 2nd year in AA.

              Going to probably make two new guys this year. A switch hitting infielder and another SP.

              I like to play with everything set to legend from the start and then not adjusting the difficulty. Makes the minor league grind much more realistic. Also don't use equipment, just seems cheesy.

                I am definitely making an outfielder this year with the added cone to aide in the fielding.

                I have not dived into RttS since the PS3, and not really played much of The Show this gen. Bought 14 and 16, but just dabbled in quick games. Not anything against The Show, I was on a gaming hiatus all around. Feels good to be back, and all the changes to what was my favorite mode, are going to feel insanely fresh to me!

                  Also I highly recommend to anyone starting a new career this year to recorded at the end of each season all your season stats in a spreadsheet. Very rewarding.

                  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...t?usp=drivesdk

                  Here is mine of my carryover CF

                  If I could do it again I would keep track of certain seasonal only stats like BA @ home/away and vs Rhp/Lhp/Risp . But I didn't start it till about my 3rd year. Obivously those would be hard to keep track of for minor leaguers as you could get called up and then not have access to those on the statistics page. But it's still worth while imo. Especially for the postseason stats.

                    Question #1

                    Which is harder? Legend or Hall of Fame? Presently my RTTS pitcher who is still in AA ball is pitching at the All-Star difficulty. But I am mowing down the opposition at a much higher strike out rate than I really should be. I am thinking of raising the difficulty level at some point. Originally I was going to do it once I make a MLB squad. But now I am thinking I should do it when I get promoted to AAA or even doing it once I start playing MLB 18 even if I am still in AA when that happens.

                    Question #2

                    Is an equipment type only applied once per category? I am new to RTTS, but I played the many many many days in Season mode on MLB 17 and received plenty of standard card packs. In fact it was only the other day when I bothered to open up all the packs looking for equipment (I don't play DD so I could care less about the player cards). I have applied some equipment to my RTTS player. But it appears that I only apply one glove or one bat, etc, etc, etc which gives my player a small boost in some of his skills. But it does not appear to be a massive boost like I was gaming the system. Or perhaps I am missing something here what with me being new to RTTS.

                      #1) Ok so rtts difficulty is different than the rest of the game. And this has actually been confirmed on OS via comparing Pci sizes of batters. How it works is it scales to the level of play you are at. So for AAA it is the same as the one you have in settings (All-Star). For AA it is one lower (Veteran) that's why it's been so easy for you. And it raises one level (Hof) when you reach the MLB. They do this to create a noticeable difference in each level of play, whether it's really accurate or not is your opinion.

                      So if you set the difficulty to All-Star

                      AA = Veteran
                      AAA =All-Star
                      MLB = HOF

                      I personally like playing on Legend for Rtts (Typically for play now and franchise I play on HOF)

                      So if it's set for Legend

                      AA = HOF
                      AAA = Legend
                      MLB = Legend (same as AAA)

                      #2) As for equipment I'm pretty sure the attributes can stack if a bat gives you +5 contact and gloves give you +3 you'll have +8. However I never have used equipment so I'm not 100% on that. I never use equipment or perks/showtime. I just feel like it gives you an unfair edge. Same reason I never did the training sessions in past rtts. If I could have it I would be a middling .750 ops middle infielder for 12 years [emoji23].

                        Thanks for the explanation. I am going to leave it at "All Star" for whatever time I have left playing in MLB 17 to max out as many training points as I can to give my pitcher a little boost prior to MLB 18 when things will radically change (for the better) and then once in MLB 18 I am going to try bumping it up to HOF. I am sure I will still be a AA player for a while yet and in all honesty I really don't want to be one of those people who rushes their RTTS careers into the MLB level as fast as they can. I want to experience the journey of playing through the minor leagues. After all if I want to play a game at the MLB level, I still have my Season mode save that I also plan on carrying over.

                        Question #3

                        What about sliders? Are other sliders from other game modes compatible with RTTS game play? Presently I am playing with default sliders right now in RTTS and my own teammates are struggling on offense when they bat. Part of that is because I play on a last place AA team with poor offensive skills. But part of it could be slider related since on most of my starts to date I have actually watched them bat from the dugout camera just if I was there and they really are not giving me a lot of run support. Of course my own batting skills in MLB The Show leave a lot to be desired. haha

                          I'm sure alot of people probably know but if you want equipment but don't want the added attribute points just equip what you want and then sell that equipment. When you load back into RTTS you will still have the equipment but not the points added.

                            That is a pretty neat workaround. Hopefully it is intended, and not a bug they fixed for 18.

                              I can't wait for RttS this year. I'm one of those folks that has tried to keep my RttS careers "realistic" for the past few Show releases. It has been 3-4 years since I went and maxed out a player to 99 everything. I just didn't find that fun anymore. Winning the triple crown and MVP and Gold Glove every single season for 10-15 straight seasons just got old.

                              So I have only been using training points when my ratings are about to start dropping during the season. Then I will spend some training points in the offseason to increase ratings some. But even then, I have tens of thousands of training points just sitting there, and my players still get to 99 overall by 25 years old, and start winning all of the awards around the same time.

                              So the new progression system based on performance really has me looking forward to grinding through the minors.
