SDS, back in 2005 with the Eye Toy, use to allow you to take a pic of yourself for your RTTS Characther on the PS2, but got rid of it with a more advance Playstation Eye on the PS3 and never looked back.

Re: Few rookies to be scanned for when they’re called up.

10 new Rays were scanned, so we will have more scanned faces than the youtube/twitch streamers! Wasn't sure that was actually going to be the case tbh, I wonder if they've bothered updating all the DD player card pics, as I think the Rays had about 4 players actually with cards of them as Rays by the end of last year!

As for us putting our own faces in, it would be pretty simple as you could do it 10 years ago on a lot of sports games, but they all seemed to remove it as a feature for some reason. Presumably the face generating software took up a ton of space (maybe it did it online actually? Can't remember)

Completely incorrect only obtain has ever been in the game before having had 1 at bat or pitched a innings, unless your thinking of call ups in September

Re: Few rookies to be scanned for when they’re called up.

A quote from the article that intrigues me.

"Two weeks ago was MLB The Show photo day at Tampa Bay Rays camp. Ten new Rays needed to be added to the game for the 2019 release, so a crew from the game company set up 46 cameras to take 46 simultaneous high-definition photos from 360 degrees. Using proprietary software, the images were sent off to Sony, where animators will produce the digital version of each player."

That sounds like players that needed a new scan or didn't have one, got scanned this spring training and will be in THIS year's game. I'm assuming some top prospects that are expected to be called up this year (Vlad Jr, Tatis Jr, Eloy, Senzel, etc) will have their face scan ready to go once they get called up and put into the game. I do remember them last year saying that face scans done during Spring Training 2018 were going to be in the game for 2019. Maybe the process is more efficient now, who knows.
