Big changes to the UFC on Fox deal

Speed Channel is becoming Fox Sports 1 in August.

- UFC Tonight is moving from Fuel (now Fox Sports 2) to FS1 and will air on Wednesday at 7:30.

- FS1 will air a monthly "Fight Night" card each month on Wednesday night.

Hmmmm, I'll have to check if I even have the Speed Channel later. It doesn't sound familiar, but there's a ton of channels that I don't watch.

I bet you have it. Speed is in more houses than Fuel. Comcast, Verizon and Direct TV all have Speed.

Re: Big changes to the UFC on Fox deal

Its a good news/bad news deal. The good news is that it looks like we are getting 2 more cards a year (10 cards on Fuel and FX vs. 12 cards on FS1) assuming that Fuel cards are a thing of the past. If Fuel/FS2 is keeping its 6 cards a year, that means we get 8 more cards a year. Also most cable systems have Speed in HD so no more watching Fuel fights in SD (for the few of us who have Fuel.

The bad news is all PPV prelims are on FS1 and no longer on FX so the few of you who dont have Speed right now may not be able to watch the Fox prelims. All FX cards are gone whether they are prelims or main cards.

More info:

- Some of the changes wont take affect until 2014. The remaining 2 2013 FX cards will now move to FS1. UFC Tonight will move in August and the prelims will move in August.

- TUF looks like its staying on FX.

- Looks like the 14 Wednesday night Fight Nights wont start until 2014.

The big issue is that FOX may want to renegotiate fees for the channels. Right now most people have Speed, which is good, but when the contract ends, FOX is going to want a lot of money. FOX will also move to bring at least 1 of the channels into the basic channel packages.

Speed channel is already in the basic channel package. For Comcast in my area it is anyway.

Good to see this since ESPN generally doesn't give MMA the time of day
