Official: Get Rasheed in The Game Thread!

    #FreeSheed

Figured we may as well try to strike up some major awareness on here & social media (ala Pippen Dream Team addition for 2k13 ), to maybe get Rasheed included through Roster Update in this years game!

It's an utter SIN to not have Sheed! On a Portland team where he was the best player, and on the amazing 04' Pistons. Let's face it, this team is now obsolete without Rasheed's presence.

He's not on social media as far as I can tell, but if we could get the #FreeSheed trending on Twitter, we may be able to generate some buzz. Let's make sure 2K knows of our displeasure in this terrible error, and see if we can right the ship.

    It's worth a shot!

This is not really going to do much good, considering the only one who can get Rasheed Wallace in the game is Sheed himself. He somehow excluded himself via the players' union is my guess, and so basically 2k's hands are tied.

Holding out hope he's in a day one patch....

I wonder why guys turn down being in the game? Seems like it's essentially free money for saying "yes"

Here is why it's hard to get legends.

For the best players like Miller, Barkley, Wallace they want to get paid more then everyone else. If they see someone who gets a certain amount they want what that person got.

For the average player it comes down to money too. If they don't have a lot they want to try to get as much as they can.

Then u got the players who just agree and don't care because they are well off. It's an ego thing and also legends aren't that big of a deal in the game just extra teams they let us use so they don't have enough money to give them.

I don't think Miller and Barkley have been saying no each year because they want more money. There are other factors at work we know nothing about.

It is ridiculous to not have Sheed of all people on that Pistons and Blazers squad. It might be more productive to tweet him if he has a twitter.

Barkley said on a episode on inside the NBA. He wouldn't do the halftime report with Shaq & Erine for free. Don't think 2k is paying them.

I'd typically not believe a thread like this was worthwhile, but considering a social trend in recent years resulted in Scottie Pippen changing course and opting to allow his likeness to be used (he was missing from those Bulls teams for a moment a few years ago), it'd be cool to see something similar shake out with Wallace.

I think he was using exaggeration to illustrate a point, suggesting 2K paid those guys to contribute, but not an amount Barkley considers worthwhile.

Apologies for the double post, but I'm wondering what Wallace's standing with the league is post-retirement. Speculation is a tricky game, but he does have a history of sharing some controversial viewpoints about the NBA. I wonder if he just went with the "not messing around with the league using my likeness anymore" route.

This team is useless without Sheed. The 2K hype team hyped this up and it isn't even a complete team, smh.

Re: Official: Get Rasheed in The Game Thread!

Also, here's an old excerpt to help complete the puzzle of how retired players are actually added to the game. I sort of speculated as such for a bit but I guess this clarifies things relatively well. On Scottie Pippen in 2K13:

Officially, the word is that Pippen came around out of fan service. While 2K Sports is careful never to discuss financial terms of its licensing deals, it's apparent money was the holdup. Pippen appeared in NBA 2K11 and NBA 2K12 under a group license offered by a retired NBA players' association. He opted out of that sometime in the past year, requiring 2K Sports to reach an individual deal with him, which it couldn't.
                      http://kotaku.com/5938648/why-did-sc...3-ask-his-wife

Again, I think a lot of us here already made such conclusions but it's nice to see the supporting evidence as well.

Under that train of thought, it creates a better understanding of how 2K is able to acquire the rights of so many players while a few at the top always seem to hold out.

I certainly wish Sheed was in the game, but people need to calm down a bit I think. He'd be the 4th best rated Piston. I'd still rather have these teams than nothing.

                        Hopefully he gets added eventually.

I will say, that 2004 Pistons team may be one of the few squads in NBA history where being the fourth best player doesn't really mean a ton in terms of a drop in quality of play. In fact, Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, Ben Wallace, and Rasheed Wallace were virtually interchangeable on a night-to-night basis as to who was going to be the one to most heavily influence the outcome of a game at hand (that is, if they didn't all contribute equally).

                          <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-BhuU4LBXRM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Moreover, while Ben Wallace's afro and No Fly Zone moniker may have been the most obvious character identifier on those Pistons teams, Rasheed Wallace is likely right behind him. His popularity and cult following rivals the game's biggest stars in some cases (not to mention, he was a four-time all-star himself).

Lastly, Wallace's mid-season acquisition is widely considered the move that transformed the Pistons from pretender to contender. Without him, they drop a healthy notch (not to mention no Mehmet Okur, Corliss Williamson, and Mike James).

Either way, I certainly agree with you on this: It's better to have a portion of these teams than no teams at all. If I have to deal with a created Rasheed Wallace, so be it. It's better than dealing with a created Sheed, Chauncey, Rip, and Ben on the wrong court.

Not having Rasheed is a huge blow but this lays the foundation just like with Kareem being added . I'm confident he'll be added with a patch or next year.

Raef LaFrentz not in the 2003 Mavs team.

This is a bigger tragedy. He was the Shaq killer.
