My assumption (I'm not a specialist) is that the game became so huge that they must use the console's limited resources in other areas.
This game just through trailers and screenshots is already the best looking 2K basketball game of all time. 2K17 had more realistic lighting than 2K14 as most the lighting in 2K14 was over lit and way over done. I've said it multiple times but seriously I don't see how you could watch this trailer and see the screenshots and think that this game has graphically gotten worse since 2K14. Some light skin players were way too light in 14, the body types barely varied and were basically the same just some bigger and some smaller. The lighting made everything look good but most arenas aren't that lit and the courts are never that shiny.

2K18 is shaping up to be the best one ever if it lives up to the hype it's creating which I think it will. Graphically it is already the best one as the biggest flaws I see are some players having inaccurate hairstyles, slight lack of muscle definition, and the clippers jerseys having the wrong blue. Those are problems I'm ok with as previous games had worse especially 2K15 and 2K17.

2K14 had overdone lighting where the court looked liked a hockey rink with those extreme reflections and the textures on the player models looked like clay up close. This myth about 2K14 looking so good needs to die. It was amazing for it's next gen debut but 2K16 was FAR superior as a total visual package...lighting, textures, animations.

The trailer was below average, let's face it we're all gonna buy the game. We will be disappointed but LIVE has not caught up yet to make us trade our loyalty. This just gives them a chance to close the gap ever so slightly.

I do think that audio needs a whole revamp next year, and they need stop using game gb to add all these classics teams. Perfect your broken issues instead of adding unfinished content to patch on release. Or make these bonus classic/euro teams an expansion pack. Where we have the option to download the additional content

It's because they are still making the game for PS3 and 360 because $$$. WWE 2K18 finally stopped porting to last gen this year and the graphics saw a huge upgrade. Actually looks current gen now.

I greatly respect your point of view and I'll conceive the lighting was flashy although unrealistic. Of course the game had less variety (body type wise, less animations etc), but for me, the textures in the player models in 2K17 were worse than ever. They look muted and flat. And when sweat starts dropping, they look like shinny plastic soldier toys.

The same goes to the jerseys and hairdos...look at some of the letterings in some of the uniforms, take "New York" for instance...they look lit as if they were on batteries or something. Have a peak on Rudy Gay's hairdo...it shines like it's made of metal.

Overall, 2K14 still passes the eye test for me to this day with much less eye sores than the games that came after it.

They need to have an art guy come and talk to the community for once. I feel like suggestions fall on deaf ears because the people we have are mostly gameplay focused. Not that they shouldn't be, but we don't have anybody to direct art feedback to.

Can somebody make a thread that focus only on the art department or that directly to Joel Friesch the art director as he the one who proudly says that this year PLAYER ACCURACY is on point from head to toe. coz once this game is out this forum will be bombarded with myplayer/myparks/myteam/shooting complaints thread and nobody will notice this art problems again like the year before and the year before and the year before that.

if there will be a patch i wish that the 1st patch is the art department, replay highlights or the atmosphere/ambiance. coz once they touch the gameplay then were back to 2k17 again.

Yeah..... you learn the 2K pre-release methods after enough years haha.

Look I'll take this version of Russ. I mean, the hair is updated and his face will be ok still. Body looks good..... I'm sure he'll play well (with his unique layup package etc.).....

I think EA's game has an amazing Russ (cover guy last year - so there's that). But hey, glass is half full.

Looking forward to it!
