    Is shot release automatic?

First I thought it was just the demo. When I hold the button down and don't let go I still release the ball at the top of my jump. When I got the game the same thing. I tried practice mode but it did not matter. I kept hitting everything when I did not let the button go. Tried the shot stick still release at the same point. I thought when you held the button down it releases when you let go. So no more hanging in the air on jumpers. Can someone try this out. It seems cheap if there is a automatic release.

    Re: Is shot release automatic?

I just tested it in a game and it does not matter how long I hold the button the shot is released at the top of my jump. Its having no effect on my jump shots. I'm still hitting them. Shot release is computer assisted. I remember last generation there was a option to turn that off. I guess timing your jump shots was not important this year. I hope someone can prove me wrong.

I think this is the problem with Kobe's jumper, the form looks right, but its to quick, you can try to hold the button to release it when you want to but you can't get any hang time on his jumper or others.

I don't know what the hell ya'll are talking about. I just don't. Every player has certain shot releases. If you release wrong, you are bound to miss.

Please 2K developers don't tell me this is true. First, user control on defense is compromised by having the defensive assist option (which can be eliminated via slider adjustment- but why should we have to?), now you're telling me they've removed control from us YET AGAIN by not letting us control the timing of our jump shots? I thought the developers were working on giving the user MORE control this year not less?

Just read this and it pretty much confirms my suspicions. I couldn't finger on why I couldn't get Dirk's fall-away off like last year, but this is what was happening.

I suppose they're trying to phase out us button-pressin jump shooters and make us use the analog stick?

The shooting mechanics of this game are totally different. Because I notice 2 things. Even when you get your feet set-up. You can still miss if you have high shooting rating.

Oh I forgot...In shooting drills it's a good idea to shoot from different areas...For some reason if you shoot in the same spot all the time...You will start missing.

Wait, people can miss shots when they're fundamentally sound? What is 2K doing?

This has nothing to do with missing the shots. I'm only talking about the release. Seems like it doesn't matter if you hold the button down longer than you should. They release the shots anyway. It's just a timing/control quirk. Not a showstopper by any means.

They've had the option to turn that off in previous versions, but I haven't checked to see if it's in 2k10.
