Exactly...

Bird couldn't reach the rim He was 6'9 and had the same vertical as Karl Malone...

'86 C's were champions, the 2011 Miami Heat? couldn't even win a ring...

Not only were they athletic, they had the best player of all time, along with Pippen, who was very good and two very very strong defensive players in the paint for the years they had great seasons. Even when Jordan was gone they still were good, the year he played baseball. I am no Heat fan, but the Heat would destroy any team from the 80s.

while I agree that the '86 Celtics or '87 COULD beat the Bulls (because of their dominant big men), you can not be serious saying that the 90s Bulls won titles in a weak TEAM era..

The 86 Celtics could barely beat a one man show 86 Bulls, how could they beat the colossal 96 Bulls?

I don't wanna get into that whole discussion right now but at least get your facts straight... barely beat? the Bulls got swept in the playoffs and they got beat 5 outta 6 times during the regular season, and this is only for the 86 season.

Yeah, the Heat being soundly beat by a team actually known for their *lack* of athleticism, being soft, having few outstanding talents, and just playing good team ball.

Though not at Wade or Lebron's level, the Showtime Lakers were hardly unathletic, and the Bad Boy Pistons would have eaten Bosh (who's afraid to get hurt) alive. I'm sure Larry's squad would have something to say about things, too.

This years' Finals (and playoffs) demonstrate that freakish athleticism isn't the end all and be all. I think the whole continuing evolution of players' athleticism is mostly a myth. Things shifted significantly in the 90's but what the league has gained in the Lebrons, Wades, Howards, and Garnetts since, it's lost in the plethora of ridiculously athletic and skilled centers in Hakeem, Robinson, Ewing, and Shaq. The second best center now isn't even a household name. Not to mention that the Mavs stopped the Heat with just a decent defensive specialist and a power forward with crummy defense.

I think the Heat will have their moment, but they need some upgrades, and Lebron needs to find the killer instinct he just doesn't have.
