Is there some sort of trick to pulling off spin layups in-game?

I can do it just fine in Practice mode, but every time I try to bust it out in a game, I end up doing a spin jumper instead (no matter how close I am to the basket or how hard I'm driving).

It's drive, hold left trigger, and rotate right stick, correct? It's always a spin jumper for me when I'm in a game.

It depends how far you are from the basket, and the defender position. Try to at least get into the paint, or under 10-12 feet from the basket.

It doesn't seem to matter where I am on the court, though... I've done spin jumpers that resulted in my player hitting the bottom of the rim.

Spin Layup-While dribbling towards the basket, rotate RS in a circular motion.

I would suggest you make sure you has the LS pointed towards the basket while you are rotating the RS. You may be letting go of the LS to soon or have it pointed to the side or away from the basket.

or have controller setup as alt. a setup, then in game: dribble towards basket (sprinting or not), then around 15 feet from press B to spin, then press X or RS up to shoot initiating a layup, but it all depends how far u are from the basket.

That's an interesting suggestion. I tried this, and then noticed that if you change your Controller Setup to anything other than "Default," the "Advanced Controls" part of the controller menu is grayed out. Does anyone have any idea why? You can still do all the advanced shot stick moves and whatnot with non-default.

Also, it appears that you have to hold turbo to trigger the spin layup instead of the spin jumper.

Nah man you can use either trigger, the RT just makes it possible to spin dunk on occasion.

If you an do it in practice, you'll get in the game eventually. Imagine the free throw line making a 3 pt line type of arc, and start your spin when your lead foot hits that line.

Don't let go of 'RS' if you want the whole spin motion and the layup.
