Season Matchmaking Changed

I just wanted to let everyone know that we just turned on a Season Matchmaking change that should help improve the matching. It's not a final solution, but you should see improvements in the quality of matches in your Season games with this change. We are continuing to work on a better matching system for Season games.


You will see Season Matchmaking take 1 hour (sometimes less) now though. It should not take longer than 1 hour, if you do please let us know. Also, this will not guarantee a "truck" will appear in your Season, but it should make it better for the majority of players.

Will future improvements eliminate the "truck" problem? Most people on the forum either tank in the first round or try to win it all. With a person with substantially greater stats than everyone else in the season, that second option is eliminated. So we all tank the first round.

That is exactly what it will fix in the future. We are working on several Season improvements and a part of that will be a better matching system. In the meantime, we did this change today which will make the experience better than it was until we get the bigger change out.

Question. Are we still rated on our *entire* collection or just our best 15 or 20 or something? Basically are we going to get punished for having a collection? For min-maxing do we need to basically throw away any rares we aren't using, possibly even epics that have no shot of making our lineup even when pro-ed, etc?

You were never "punished" for holding cards in your collection. The matchmaker takes into account your "potential" top 15 cards (the amount needed to play a Season game). Unleveled cards that would have their stats make it crack your "top 15" would be considered in the matchmaker. Anything that would result, stat wise, in something less than your top 15 is not considered.


Bottom line, hold on to the cards you want to hold on to. Just don't waste your time trying to game the system by starting with Commons in your Season and swapping in Epics you had in your hand at the time your started the Season.

That is all part of the bigger Season changes we are working on. "Soon" is relative, but I would not call it "soon".

Would you mind giving any specifics on how large the gap will be for the matchmaking system. I.e if I start a season with my friends who all have 500 stats lower would the gap be too large to get placed into a season with them?
