How does progression actually work?

I'm really curious to how progression actually works in this game. I'm mostly wondering if it's based on stats, school, or is there a potential rating?

I'd like to know too. I'm guessing no one has a definitive answer, unless an EA person sees this.

Re: How does progression actually work?

I read a post where someone said team prestige tied into how a player progresses but I'm not sure if that's true either. I'd really love to have a clear answer also.
