Online Game Freezes

Just started a game ... Other guy pressed pause after coin flip and screen is frozen. No functions of the remote work. Can't resume game, can't sub and can't anything. Background is still moving. Nothing on his end.

Haven't played a down yet. I don't want to get a loss by restarting ps3. This is a playoff game for me so I don't want to get screwed.

What can I do?

also tried disconnecting the remote and reconnecting. Nothing change.

And I got the loss. 0-0.

I've had that happen to me before and I usually just leave it on and do something else. After a while I come back and it says something about connection has been lost and I think the game didn't count either way.
