i need to read up on defense, what everything does, pretty much anything about it where could i find a good website that would show me some of the ideas behined all the formations and teach me what each is good for?

Not sure about online, but your best bet would probably be a Prima strategy guide. Plus, it must more convenient to have the book near you than to keep racing back to the computer just for a quick read. Never used it though for sports games, but I know it's helped a couple of my friends who were just less-than-casual sports games fans.
