You have to be outside the tackles to avoid intentional grounding. Sorry, not sure what button it is, but you can check on the 'controller configuration' screen.

I would suggest keeping a rb, especially a fb or rb running a crappy route, in to protect. I know that will sometimes make the safeties drop back into coverage but it helps pick up the blitz and gives you time to either roll out and get rid of the ball or get it to a 3rd or 4th option.

Another thing I do is always have my "safe WR" picked out before the play. My safe WR is the player that runs the quickest route so if I do see a blitz, I can still get the ball out early. This safe WR is usually a back out of the backfield (I love the plays where they block and then release) or a reciever running a quick slant. Even outs, posts, or flags usually take too long.

Another way to practice is to play 'Play Now' games and super sim your defense. If you like, you can run the same offensive play over and over again against the cpu defense which, to you, will be random.
