Now how do you have time to talk over here sting when you can't even help us get our league going.. Don't make the deacs take punishment out on the jackets.

Seems to me it wouldn't be illegal per se. And effective as a "niche" offense used at certain moments.

Florida with a QB like TB late in a close game for example. it's just another difficult wrinkle to deal with. Like the Spread offense.

If you used it exclusively though, I'm sure you QB would DIE. Just like the run n shoot. Any offense has an advantage and an achilles.

I applaud them for the innovation, implementation, and execution. But...since most humans favor tradition...there will be rule changes eventually. I think that most people feel this is a gross exploitation of the rules, which it is. This is all based on it being a "punt formation". Traditionally you punt on 4th down. Reason being; there is no benefit what so ever to punt on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd downs. To erase this from the chaulkboard of the coaches room, all the rule book needs to have is number exemption only for 4th down situations.

It's just a gimmick offense to help a small school compete against bigger ones. Not much different than teams still running the wishbone or variations of the run and shoot. They figure it's tough to prepare for a team like that in 3 days and get a bit of an advantage.

The "future of football" is laughable though. These wide open offenses always have a couple big issues that will never allow it to be anything more than a gimmick HS offense.

First, it's not built to run the football. It leads to horrible red zone conversion rates. Allows defenses to sit in a bend but don't break defense and not give up the big play. The other is that it'll get your QB killed against any talented D-line. You just can't block good lineman with that little protection. It'll lead to more sacks, interceptions, and incomplete passes. And finally, without a power running attack, you can't control the clock. Defenses don't get the rests they need and it's tough to play with a lead.

This stuff works in high school and for some college teams. Any team with a lot of talent though will slaughter it.

Not True.

Maybe in shotgun it's illegal, but this is a useable formation in College football - In fact the site for the A-11 states that Florida and San Jose State has used it last year. The video is Spurrier using it under center back in the day. 3 wide each side, 3 "linemen", a QB and Running back.

Well, this is being run at the high school level, so it will probably work against plenty of teams.
