Will we ever have the option to choose between bowls and playoffs back?

The Division 1-AA thread got me wondering, would it be feasible for us to get back the option to have either the traditional bowl system or a playoff of 24-32 teams as our postseason. My educated guess is that the BCS licensing agreement would prohibit this, but if I'm wrong, will we ever have this feature back?

I miss that too...... I think you are right though......either some obscure and ridiculous BCS thing or another future "new feature"

The lawyer part of me thinks that the BCS has contractually prevented this. The rational part of me wonders if the BCS would even care if there was a playoff. I'd love to see this feature back if at all possible.

Your lawyer part is probably sadly correct. I would love a customizable playoff system, therefore I could hold the GIGGAS Championship Series.

12 teams enter (all 11 conference champions + 1 at large)
1 team leaves as victors

I know that playoff systems can be complicated to build (especially customizable ones). I'd honestly settle for the top 8,16 or 32 teams in the BCS being in a playoff. That doesn't seem like it would be too difficult.

Would love to hear the legality of it though. It's still not a major issue in my mind as long as efforts are being made to expand the system that is currently in place in NCAA.

I was thinking 16... that'll shut anyone up that says Big 12 #2 should make it over MAC #1. While they have a point, I think all conference champs should go. The fact that 16 out of 120 teams make it keeps the regular season just as meaningful... in fact MORE meaningful as At-Large teams jockey for position all up and down the top 25 rather than just among 2 or 3 of 'em.

5 at Large and Notre Dame can stay independent and not need a special BCS inclusion contract. Just one and you know they'd figure out a way to pretty much guarantee if they're ranked, they're in. (I'm a ND fan and I know this!)

EA adding a feature that woud allow the players to customize their experience to their own liking, and a feature that would be relatively easy to add? Dream on.
