Games like MLB 08 The Show show you what next gen should be

I think it's funny that you guys buy the same game every year from the same company and after you get something you don't like you come on the same forum to complain about the same issues over and over again. Only to comeback july 11 2009 to buy ncaa 2010.Lower your expectations and you will be better off.

Yeah but that's because for NCAA 2010, they will put Laurinitis on he cover and the new marketing pitch will be the improved defense

Football and baseball are nowhere close to the same game. Baseball you hit the ball and run to a base that is in a straight line, football has passing and running that can be anywhere on a 100yrd field. The development of the game is alot easier for a MLB the Show then Madden or NCAA.

That's a cop-out response. MANY games have slider sets that aren't high in their degree of variability and the stat issue in The Show was fixed via a patch.

The Show is what next-gen should be about. People used to **** on that game for the terrible graphics and animations (including myself) and now they are at the top of the heap, IMO. And that's without variable weather and progressive lighting.

Gameplay wise it may be similar to "last-gen" but if you really believe NCAA's gameplay is so "revolutionary" you're kidding yourself. We've been asking for things from "last-gen" in NCAA for 3 years. I believe there will be a change next year (in The Show), but it's still early.

And as for football and baseball games being nowhere near the same? That's another cop-out. Stop giving this game a pass simply because it is college football. Instead of

For the record, The Show has an advantage with its amazing commentary. Being produced solely on Blu-Ray allows them to exceed the limitations of DVD. From what I was told, there is a ridiculous amount of space dedicated solely to audio. If you've played the game in a season you would know that. Comments on player milestones, areas they are from... hell, one comment is reserved for Ken Griffy Jr. if you make it to the World Series, claiming he has "finally made it after all these years."

Give me even an inkling of that sort of "love" in the presentation for NCAA. We're still waiting on End-Zone art for Bowl games.

If you haven't played NCAA 09 on the ps2 yet, you don't know how true that statement is.

Besides, if you think about it, gameplay is something that transcends the last-gen/next-gen debate, so that dichotomy is something of a red herring. What does "next gen control" offer that "last gen control" can't do? It's a question at this point of last gen gameplay simply being more solid than the current offerings. For me, speed and responsiveness of animations are the killing points -- last gen nails them, and the ps3 version in comparison is relatively unplayable. (In one Madden video, for example, I timed Adrian Peterson at about 7-8 seconds on a 50-yard dead sprint. Ugh. And, no, not the Bears' AP...)

But here's the proposition. Spend a week with the ps2 version -- you need that amount of time to detox from "next gen gameplay" and to get your "last gen" sea legs under you -- and then go "back" to the 360/ps3 version.

Tell me you wouldn't take the setup you're questioning in your post in a heartbeat.

Well, can't argue about your comments relative to the 360/ps3 versions of NCAA. Presentation value is nonexistent. For an offline Dynasty guy like me, the game offers next to nothing. Happy or angry football heads? Please...

But as for ps2, I can't complain about the audio at all. In fact, I had a receiver go over 500 yards in a game (intentionally going for record) and Fowler yelled, "Guys, if yards were years he'd have half a millennium!" I thought that was DAMN cool. And I suppose the same audio's in current gen versions, so I can't agree with you on that.

But as for VISUAL presentation -- the all-important "immersion factor" -- current gen NCAA has none.

I also went back to playing MLB 08 The Show about a week after I got NCAA 09. This game has been a major disappointment and is going back as credit toward the Madden CE, which I'm getting mainly for NFL Head Coach rather than Madden 09. I may rent it again after the second patch is out but by that time NHL 09 will be dropping and that may be the best next gen sports game yet.

There are many potentially better sports games dropping in the next few months and NCAA had a narrow window to grab me. It didn't.
