What is the best type of defense to use?

I like using the 3-3-5 especially when i'm playing with teams that have good if not great speed on defense.

I'm having good success with the 3-4 and select plays that are man under - deep zone with the safties. Seems to do a decent job slowing down robo qb. I play as the SS and use him to cover crossing routes, stuff the run and watch out for screens (obviously this means I don't drop him into his assigned zone).

In the past I always used a 4-3, but there's no point in that since your DL are useless this year...

Thats a good point....I've gotten good pressure with LB blitzes, so maybe I'll lean to the 3-4. I usually stick to 4-3.
