EA; Why Is a 85 Speed OLB, Slower Then a 85 Speed FB or TE?

I manually controlled my OLB for an entire game in a online dynasty game.

He's my best athlete on my front seven, so I wanted to use him and have him make as many plays as possible.

..here's what I observed.

Running side line to sideline, is dang near futile. The player just doesnt pursue..he has no explosiveness..im pressing turbo to beat the RB to the running lane, and he simply will not get there.

I blitz him through the assigned gap, and he just doesnt explode and attack the Line of Scrimmage. He runs like a sprinter who has stumbled out of his starting blocks.

Worst of all..He cannot run with players that he is supposedly as fast as.

Doesnt matter if it is man or zone..When I diagnose a play, and try to beat the TE or FB to where his route is going..he hardly ever gets there. I usally have to back him up to where I anticipate the route going..even if I should be able to run stride for stride with him.

Now, it would be one thing if I it was the CPU covering, and the player's man and zone coverage ratings where coming into play; but this is me using him.

I'm using my own recognition and reaction skills, and my guy gets beat to the spot dang near every time, unless I severely overcompensate.

Again, Im not talking about trying to chase down Noel Devine on an angle route here...im talking about a guy who my defender is equal to or even slightly better then in speed, yet he can never catch him

What gives here?

Accelaration has alot to do with it.......Also, if u are on the road, i have noticed that HFA makes my guys run all over the place. They stumble and over-pursue guys like crazy.

It makes offense easier and "wide open". It sucks.

Agreed!! The stupid "wide open" gameplay nearly makes attributes useless.

I see it on both to be honest..AA and Heisman. On Heisman it is more pronounced and exaggerated. AA it still exists, but not quite as drastic.

Could also be because you are controlling him so much (and presumingly sprinting on most plays), that his speed/acceleration is taking a hit and causing him to not perform up to his full ratings...

Who knows?

i think it is 100% EA dumbing and slowing down the Defense. It is like a switch that who ever has the ball is faster...

I have seen many examples of things like the following.

I throw a TE seem pass who has a step on the cpu linebacker. I catch it and with my step take it to the house.

Same play a few quarters later the cpu linebacker picks it and now not only can my te (who smoked him earlier) not catch him, my 90 + speed rb and wr's cant catch him as he goes pick 6.

I really think EA's "wide open game play" is simply this

Ball Carrier speed = player's speed x 1.33
Non Ball carrier speed = Player's speed x .75

Ok.. Great, we just programmed wide open game play, lets take november to june off and play GTA... AWESOME!
