How do I challenge friends to a game?
Horribly noobish question I'm sure, but I can't seem to invite anyone to a game unless I'm in the lobby. Yet people on my friend list can challenge me somehow. I don't get it, please help!

No. I've had people on my friends list challenge me when I wasn't in a lobby. Or is there a way to challenge people by username even if they aren't on your friends list?

Yes you can challenge without joining the lobby. Pull up the leaderboard and then click RB I think it is (or maybe RT) to go to your friends list where you will see them on the leaderboard. Highlight their name and send the challenge from there.
