Should Notre Dame be lowered from 6 to 5 stars?

I know some of you may be diehard Notre Dame fans and go on and on about tradition with the school, but the reality is that the program has had two back to back (and terrible at that) seasons and the streak of years without a bowl win may be 11 years coming up.

Since they lowered the stars of some schools in the past, it may be time for Notre Dame in NCAA 2010.

That's an easy one...Yes. They should be lowered. I've always liked ND because I've always like the tradition and I just fell in love with ND as a 2nd school of choice. I don't think 5* is unfair but the 6 does help with recruiting and they're doing well with that so maybe I'll change my vote to a push.

I went there and yes, it should be lowered. They are no longer "elite".

However some things for them should never drop.

TV = Elite
Program tradition = Elite

End of the day it's still ****ing Notre Dame hate em or love em

yep, two straight bad seasons after several mediocre ones are enough to lower them to 5*. If Michigan is bad again next season, they should be lowered as well. (and im a hardcore Wolverines fan)

As an ND fan from birth it's hard for me to say but yes it's something they should probably consider. We haven't been nationally great for 15 years and just haven't been able to put it together in a long time.

The tradition and TV exposure are clearly Elite, but everything else has really slipped recently. Now that's not to say the right coach couldn't come in and easily turn that right back around, re: Pete Carroll at USC. Because USC was exactly where ND is right now before Caroll came in. But yes, we've struggled a lot recently and at some point you have to stop living off the past and adapt.

Florida State was 6 stars and A+ in NCAA 07, but after a 7-6 season, they were quickly dropped from 6 to 5 stars in NCAA 08 and remain there in NCAA 09. To be honest though, those are still over .500 and a "winning season" and not as bad as going 3-9.

As far as I'm concerend this doesn't have to do with record, but what the school offers. ND has landed consecutive top 10 classes. They still pull in talent way above what they should be with their record.

Fan Base: Elite
TV exposure: Elite
Coach Prestige: Elite? Why else could Free Willy recruit these players?
Coach Experience: Poor
Pro Players:Excellent
Campus Lifestyle: I don't know ask Stewaat
Playing Time: Elite to Excellent at most positions ask all the freshmen who have started there the past couple of years.

I don't care what they put them at, but I believe they would have a recruiting edge as they do in real life. Spartans have outplayed and won the last 6 in South Bend, have an great stadium and athletic facilities, and a pretty good fan base that fills the 80,000 seat stadium every week, but players go to ND over MSU all day long.
