It happens.
Hell, it happened to a player in our online dynasty. One of the user teams was #1, a CPU team was #2, and he was #3 (in the BCS STandings) and of course had to beat 4-5 user teams to do it.
He was pretty pissed, but the cpu can't (and shouldn't) factor in "user" emphasis into the rankings.
