Here is the quote from the third dynasty blog by Russ: "There is now a chance that a Prospect will have a bonus to any school close to home. For some of the Prospects, every school in their home state will get a different amount of extra points when he is created."

That should about ease your concern.

Re: Should "Proximity to Home" hold more weight?

I think from what we have seen in the blogs they have done a good job of increasing the value of location without necessarily making the proximity to home pitch more powerful. The initial levels of the recruits interest seem to be based largely on proximity to home and school prestige which is probably where they should be and which makes proximity more valuable than other pitches right off the bat. Also, pipeline states are given a bonus and seeing as those are usually the home state and a couple surrounding it that gives another boost for recruiting players close to your school.

One thing to consider is the majority of the schools on that list are consistently dominant. So how much of it is the kid wanting to stay close to home versus having a powerhouse BCS school in his backyard offering a scholarship? In order to really gauge proximity, they'd have to show how many local recruits bottom feeder schools are able to recruit.

I think prestige will also come into play with the recruit, something also brought up in blog three.

Here it is from blog three: " Worked on the logic each Prospect uses to decide what schools he will consider for his Top 10 at the start of a season. The objective was to limit the amount of lower caliber Prospects that were filling their Top 10’s with the best schools in the nation. Now, they take the Team’s Needs and Prestige more into account."

Nice to see VT as number 4 on that list

Anyway, I'm really glad they're making proximity a bigger issue. I'm actually surprised VT's in-state is only in the 50's%. Always seems like just about everyone is from Va.

Oh, and technically it's "Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University."

Also I think alot of people overlook the fact that when these kids choose where to go they are anywhere from 16 to 18 (Unless you are being recruited by USC, in that case, 13), and many of them want to stay at least relatively close to their friends, family, and everything they have ever known much of the time.

Well if you are playing as University of Maryland, recruits in our state should have their own "Getting Away From Home" as a option
