triple option agianst the 3-4

Anyone got some tips on running the triple option against the 3-4? Im having trouble becuase the outside linebacker becomes the read key and he never seems to either commit either to the handoff or the stay come up field for the option.

If he doesn't crash, you have to give it to the FB and take your 0-3 yard gain. Also with the WR's out wide, the OLB on the opposite side will often catch your QB before he can accelerate. Once in a while you can catch the 3-4 unbalanced and exploit the hole with the FB.

Run WB dive to change things up and get your SB's involved. Also run double option plays like speed, quick, load and get your QB upfield as quick as possible.

The goalline flexbone formation will keep that opposite OLB from getting in the backfield since it uses two TE's.

Hope it helps. I play as Navy offline and Army in an online dynasty. 3-4's are generally tougher to run the triple option against so you are not alone.
