Running with the QB

Ok so I am using the ps3 version of 12 and playing with VT... Logan Thomas ran several qb draws this season successfully IRL. Whenever I run with him, (Draw or out of pocket rush on pass attempt) one of these things happens(sometimes more than one)
1) the defender comes off the edge and sacks
2) He fumbles after being tackled (Is there a way to slide?PS3 controls)
3) His stamina dot turns red

Since VT has had many scrambling QB's is this part of the AI gameplan against me? I have one of the better rushing offenses and was running the ball early and wondered if the CPU was stacking the box as part of adaptive AI as well? I do give up a lot of sacks but after one rush being out of stamina, if I don't rush for 3-4 straight plays the passes are way off (leading to INTS) or when I get sacked Thomas is injured. I am wondering if it is something I am doing wrong? Do I just move the joystick up to rush (I had been hitting r2+joystick) which I think was in the manual? Also is there a way to slide/throw the ball away?

Unfortunately it's a gameplay thing.

Momentum isn't factored into player movement...at all

To slide, simply tap the square button (don't hold onto it). You have to be passed the line of scrimmage though.

In what regard? Do i just move the joystick to rush the qb or do i hold r2 as well? Is there another button to have him protect the ball to eliminate fumbles? If i raised his stamina rating that would probably take care of the instatnt fatigue issue but I feel like thats cheating the game

QBs just fumble often when hit in this game. I guess it's a penalty for running with the QB

R1 should throw the ball away. It's RB on the 360, so I believe it should translate to the PS3.

The protect ball button helps a lot. my QB fumbled 7 times in 213 carries through 2 seasons, I don't think that is bad for a QB that is not much of a runner(listed as a pocket passer with 59 carry rating).

or if your timing is good, you could use the right thumb stick to twist your upper body so the ball is away from the defender.

as long as you avoid diving in the middle of the field, fumbles really shouldn't be that much of an issue. The only time I ever dive is near the end zone pylon.
