Starting with 1980 conferences

I've decided to turn back the clock to 1980. I set the conferences as closely as I could. I then randomized the schedule, and am going forward. Teams will not play their exact schedules, but I'm playing out games and altering outcomes to make the better teams come out on top. This is as an effort to recreate the past seasons as much as possible. I plan on playing to some point, probably 1990, once I have the landscape (team prestige etc) as close to the times as possible. Then I will continue on from there updating conferences as they would have changed IRL. So far, its a little work, but pretty fun. Top teams of 1980 included Georgia, Pitt, FSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, etc.

Re: Starting with 1980 conferences

Did you use the awesome excel spreadsheet someone created?

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...l=en_US#gid=46

I've never fully devoted myself to doing this, however, I think with a current roster base, I think setting the clock back to 1980...or better yet

1991 when the death of the SWC begun, would be fun indeed.

Re: Starting with 1980 conferences

Exactly my point. I grew up watching college football in the 90s. That is why I'm setting it back to 1980 so that I can build going forward and get the proper teams good for the time period. Now, by winning games in 1980 with teams like Pitt, Nebraska, FSU and all the other good teams of the era, they should then recruit based on their play on the field and the proper teams should be good once it hits the timeframe I'm accustomed to. Considering taking over KSU as Bill Snyder and try bringing them to relevance through the 90s. Cant wait to get there.

Don't forget the requirement to have at least one conference championship game.

Is that true? I remember doing a setup that didn't have any conference championship games and I didn't notice any problems.
