If the CPU didn't blitz 85% of the time, slants and 4 verticals wouldn't work 100% of the time.

Not sure how to change the CPU from blitzing so much, but right now the main focus is to get into my dynasty without freezing.

What difficulty are you playing on? Four Verticals doesn't work all that well for me on Heisman. I found two money plays though and I was using Texas State.

QB Draw, and PA Passes. The CPU just doesn't handle either of them well. Sucks to have to resort to stuff like this though, but the game is so cheap you have no choice at times.
