Re: 5 2 Defense

You want to add a 3-4 Predator in custom playbook

If you're using a custom playbook, wouldn't you rather just use 5-2 to simulate a 5-2 defense?

I've been using the Multiple D playbook and it has 5-2 in it as well if you don't feel like making a playbook yourself.

The answer to this is no. USC does not run a "5-2" the way that the 5-2 formtion is on the game. They run a form of the 4-3 that looks and acts as if it were a 5-2. In the 5-2 on the game, it is almost a goaline defensive look and all 5 defensive lineman are down in a stance at all times. Nobody in college or the NFL runs that 5-2 formation from the game as their base defensive formation.

Re: 5 2 Defense

It really depends on how many interior linemen each formation uses. The reason NOT to use a 3-4 is if it only gives you one DT on the field, versus a 5-2 which could put 3 on the field at a time. Big difference defending the run.

UNC runs a 4-2-5, but its not really a 4-2-5. It more closely aligns to a 3-4 because the bandit or Predator OLB rushes most of the time. Its a headache to recruit with because LBs are less of a need so I usually go with the recruiting profile of a 4-3, then move hard hitting SS's to one specific OLB spot and move big LBs or pass rushing DEs down to a specific DE side.

Everything BrockOchoGOAT said is correct. Also, with the way the 5-2 is set up in this game isn't really how SC will be using it. In the game its set up as DE-DT-DT-DT-DE

The 3-4 Predator is LB-DE-DT-DE-LB. But in the predator formation in the game the LB's are on the LOS and standing up. Similar to how we will use the defense.

So which scheme in the game should I use simulate the 5-2 Defense?
