It depends on how much Halo multiplayer you'll be doing. If you plan to routinely have at least 4 friends playing on a decent TV, then Halo 2 all the way. IMO, there wasn't much that was more fun than the endless hours of Halo at the house of a friend--some of the funniest and best moments of the past year took place there.

But, that said, Halo 2 is probably, IMO, not worth it for single-player. for one-player enjoyment, NOTHING comes close to an NCAA football dynasty.
