Keeping the Military schools + GT from becoming dominant.

I know this is a problem in the game, and I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to how to keep the option teams from becoming powerhouses. I guess I could change their playbooks and scheme's, but is there any clever way to curb them without changing their styles? Im sure this has been addressed, apologies if so. Thanks in advance!

Re: Keeping the Military schools + GT from becoming dominant.

It's been discussed, but I can't remember if they had their own thread or we just discussed it within one.

Anywho, there's some options. The quick/easy one is to change their playbooks.

The other option is to take a substantial amount of time editing the players on the roster to be...well, crappy lol.

If you use the editor, I think a major factor for the service academies is their tradition rating. If you change that to a D-, it could curb their success.

Re: Keeping the Military schools + GT from becoming dominant.

What's worked for me perfectly is editing all their QBs to have 70 Throw Power, 50 Throw Accuracy. Then just edit the same for incoming freshman QBs onward. These guys aren't supposed to be competant passing quarterbacks, but the game basically rates them like they are. Editing them down makes their sim stats go from a high passing percentage to a low one, as it should be. So, it's just something you have to manually fix.

And it doesn't murder them completely, I've still had a few here and there slip into the 25-20-ish positions every few years, but definitely not the automatic top 10's they become just a few seasons in lol.

I just threw the Academies into the same Conference (American). Army and Navy have regressed but Air Force is still a national power in year 2038 (3 Natties)

I just changed their offense to a pro style. They still run for tons of yards and hardly throw, but I’ve never had them win more than 8-9 games.

using the editor I keep their prestige at 1* this usually helps in keeping the top talent away from them. and I adjust the ratings if I see they have a very good qb

My way was to use Army (with Air Raid) as one of my teams. I play Navy and Air Force each year and I changed GT's philosophy.

Re: Keeping the Military schools + GT from becoming dominant.

If you change them from their default playbook to the default option run playbook it limits them. Also like someone above me said, putting Army and Navy into conferences helps too. It might just be a coincidence, but in my dynasty I’m in year 2028 and Georgia Tech didn’t become a powerhouse until post-Paul Johnson. They have a game created coach now running the air raid
