Field Goal problem....

Now, while I have experienced 30 yard field goals by historically half-decent kickers falling short (and by short not even to the endzone) that hasn't been the problem that I have. I went to kick a field goal at the end of the game. Tied 31-31 with about 30 seconds left (one sec more on play clock) selected kick, and waited for the snap. I thought we were just waiting for the last possible second to run the clock out like you would in this situation, but they let the clock run all the way out. Luckily I ended up winning in OT after having to stop them, but has anyone else seen this happen?
