NHL 2K9 and Ben Bishop On The Spot

Fighting looks great!! From the looks of it, this could very well be the best fighting engine in any hockey game to date. You use the triggers to balance your player, and punch with the press of a button.

Human vs Human but I like what I'm seeing.

Looks like a day one purchase for me.

Yep, I am feeling this game. I love the Skating and the gameplay looks real smooth. Can't wait.

i love the fighting, but in the demo, it feels like youre skating in mud. The players legs move, but it feels like youre going nowhere.

I don't feel that way at all, but it is cool. I love the way the skating is.

I'm sure sliders will give an adequate range from true mud skating to Speed-Gonzalez-Cheese-Fest-Arcade level! Most everyone agrees that if, on the fly, you can go blue line to blue line in about just under 3 secs. with an adequate skater, that's pretty realistic.

Im not really complaining about the speed of it, its more of an animation issue. It just looks weird how they animated the skating.

That's something that I never quite understood. The fastest guys can complete a lap in 13-15 seconds (taken from superskills results back when the speed competition was a full lap and from a dead stop mind you) so how does a decent skater take 3 seconds to go from blue line to blue line. That seems too slow to me.

This year the competition was changed to a race from goal line to offensive blue line and a few guys did that in under 7 seconds, again from a full stop.

The problem IMO is that we can't balance hockey speed (the speed the y normally skate when playing) VS full speed. Most try to achieve hockey speed when setting speed sliders but that somewhat takes away the fact that sometimes in games guy will really turn on the jets and actually skate as fast as they can.

Come to think of it, that's one of the areas where 2K has an advantage over EA with their speed burst and I was pleased to see that they took out the 2 different speed bursts nonsense. So if you set the speed in accordance with your 3 seconds from blue line to blue line rule without using speed burst then using the speed burstcould give you more realistic top speed. All that's left after that is tweaking the speed burst sliders to make it ineffective to use it all the time as some do.

Well, this is all "remains to be seen" once the game is out. I certainly hope the skating seems fluid. The last game where the skating changed drastically in the series (from k3 to k4) had me dumping the game rather quickly.
