Does NHL 2k8 have penalty shots?

Does NHL 2k8 have penalty shots? Not after overtime but during normal games / normal time?

Yes and they are better than the ones in NHL 2K10. They are kinda difficult to get though, just like in a real hockey game. You have to enable Intense Contact Control and you have to hook or trip a player that's on a CLEAR breakaway/scoring chance which doesn't happen often.

Once a player is on a breakaway it's hard to catch up to him on the ice. You'll likely play dozens of games before you can even see one. But it does happen.

Funny you mention this: I am about 22 games into a Franchise with default rosters and VeNOM's sliders and I allowed a penalty shot goal today.

So yeah they're in. Sometimes it's necessary to hook someone (X on Xbox 360, Square on PS3) on a breakaway especially with a slider set like VeNOM's where you get back fast enough on defense maybe 10% of the time.

How do you generate more penalty calls other than the penalty call slider does anything else have an effect?
