EA came out firing today, with some bold talk from the NBA Live team and varying presentations on its other sports games. Most impressively, Need for Speed seems to be throwing everything it can into this year's title. Could that franchise be ready to truly break out? Agree with Glenn Wigmore. There was absolutely no excitement from the crowd whatsoever for the sports titles. I also watched the Microsoft conference and when Peter Moore of EA was out there it was literally only 1 guy clapping. We’ve reached a point where the regular sports titles should probably be going the way of game as service, with yearly roster DLC/patches/etc. I think we’ve reached a point where gamers realize they are going in circles. Features from years ago being recycled and they call it “new”. The developers have plateaued.

The only area where we see true innovation is coming from the indie scene.

Agree for the most part. A game like Live might benefit from yearly release because there can be much improved year to year. But games like Madden and 2k could benefit from maybe a once every 2 year release. More development time could result in more eye popping changes. Typically the new releases are fresh but more of the same with improvements here and there.

Glen Wigmore, thanks for at least mentioning Fight Night in some form. Many writers don't talk about it because they are not fans of the sport.
