I had a feeling that this would happen to me

For about a month I've been going to the bathroom waaaay too much (and been thirsty). Didn't think anything of it. Then lately vision been more blurry, been more sluggish, and I thought it was because of not eating enough. So I come up to Jacksonville for Thanksgiving and my mom and grandma noticed I've lost a lot of weight. Went to urgent care today, and now I'm sitting in a hospital bed due to dehydration and most likely diabetes (my blood sugar was at 528).

OS has surprised me in the past. Any tips of what I will have to do going forward (I understand the whole I need to go to the doctor regularly). My diet has pretty much just changed today, so it's just all new.

Yeah......you have diabetes. My dad had the same signs before he was diagnosed with it. He was always thirsty, had to pee a hell of a lot and he lost close to 100 pounds. That being said.......ahem.

No white bread, got to really cut back on it.
Diet soda only
No french fries or white potatoes period.
Can't use regular sugar in anything, have to use the artificial kind.
Basically anything that contains sugar you can't have, not even the smallest amount.
Got to severely cut back on drinking alcohol.

That is how my dad got diabetes, from drinking too much alcohol. And if you are a heavy smoker, you can get it from that as well. The type 2 diabetes anyway.

I had no idea you could get it from drinking too much.

I take it, it's because of the constant de hydration of the body ?

I don't have much knowledge on it. My grandmother on my father's side is the only person in our family with it.

Excessive drinking damages the pancreas. If that gets damaged your body stops naturally producing insulin, which leads to diabetes.

Excessive smoking damages increases the blood sugar level too high, which makes your body insulin resistant, which leads to diabetes.

Thankfully I don't smoke, so that's nothing I have to worry about. This is probably the end of me going out, because I can't be around some people sober and I'll rather stay in.

It just sucks that most of the food I eat now (especially my favorite desserts) are no longer eatable.

I have "Type 2.5 Diabetes" which is just a smartazz way of saying I have high blood sugar...

When / if you wanna drink, stick to the super low carb beers (Mich Ultra / Miller Lite / Natty Lite), Vodka (with soda, no tonic, juices or sugary sodas as mixers) or white (not red) wine...

Look into the Zone Diet / South Beach / Sugar Busters

Cut out anything "white"

White Flour / white rice / pasta / etc

There's plenty of really amazing sugar free options out there as desserts...

Best part:

Cut that crap out of your diet for three months and not only will you no longer crave it, it will make you sick if you cheat...

All that stuff is really bad for you anyway...

If you can beat this without insulin, you're actually going to be more healthy than the majority of folks that eat all the processed crud we exist on now...

And become a gym rat...exercise is your friend!!!

Good luck!

Really?

That stinks!

My ex, a couple friends of mine and I all "cleaned up our act" 10-15 years ago...

Firstly, everyone still sticks to some version of those diets to this day and like me, feel like hell when we get tempted by something "bad"...

Maybe you just need a longer period to lock it in?
