Week 1 Sales: MLB 2K10 Sales Down, MLB '10: The Show Up

The Show sales on the PS3 went up in the first week from last year. MLB 10 sold 112,668 games vs. 103,383 for MLB 09.

2K10 took a big hit though as their sales were pretty much cut in half from a year ago.

MLB 2K10 360 55,722
MLB 2K9 360 116,446

MLB 2K10 PS3 22,355
MLB 2K9 PS3 32,924

I hope the 2K10 sales pick up so 2K doesn't abandon the game and patches. It is nice to see that the PS3 sales have gotten closer to the 360s (40% as opposed to roughly 28% last year) despite the lack of a pre-release demo. Hopefully the PS3 version gets equal treatment in patches.

All of these stats are from vgchartz.com (week 1 totals: http://www.vgchartz.com/aweekly.php).

Re: MLB 2K10 Sales Down in Week 1

Ouch. That's sad, because from everything I have read this years 2K MLB appears to be far better than last years seeing that the Visual Concepts crew finally had a full year to iterate over it.

Just a general rant, but vgchartz is hardly to be relied upon as a source

They have no insider info and their numbers are usually pretty significantly different than NPD numbers, which actually have some credibility. I'd wait till the NPD is released for March to make any determination.

Think about this about vgchartz- what kind of idiot would pretend to try to estimate sales down to an individual unit? That small example just tells you about the ludicrous nature of the site- heck neogaf bans the use of even the word vgchartz for a reason

Well Russell_SCEA has stated in the past that they are pretty accurate.

Re: Week 1 Sales: MLB 2K10 Sales Down, MLB '10: The Show Up

I hope the sales improve for 2K10. 2K/VC really did great work in getting this series back on track. I challenge anyone not to fall in love with Gesture Pitching.

The game needs to be patched in some regards, but it's a solid baseball game. Certainly the best 2K baseball game released in a long, long time.

I've heard that VGChartz is usually way off in the first few weeks, but gets more accurate after like a month or so. Just rumor though...no facts to back that up.
