Thanks man! Really hope this deal turns out to be a bargain! We shall see.

I've heard comps of J-Rod and Acuna for him.

It's definitely a risk for the Brewers but it will payoff big time if he turns into a superstar like some are projecting. They would be "overpaying" for his pre-arb years, but if he's a stud then they would almost certainly be under his true value for those years. Then at ~$10M/year they would probably be WAY under what he'd get in arbitration.

The risk, obviously, is that your giving a 20-year old $80M guaranteed before he reaches the bigs, but the payoff could be huge if he turns into a true impact CF like Robert/J-Rod/Acuña (I know he's not in center anymore but he signed a similar extension early on and look what it's done for the Braves)

Yeah, I have seen a lot of this kid throughout last year. Just an interesting strategy is all. Also was reading this will guarantee they won't have to manipulate his service time (wait we can't say that lol) and he could start the season in MLB if he tears it up in spring training.

Re: 2023-2024 Hot Stove Thread

Sounds as though Juan Soto is committed to being a free agent after next season meaning that he will only be a guaranteed one year rental for any team that acquires him via trade.

If that is the case, I wouldn't be surprised if he stays in San Diego due to the Padres wanting a higher return than a team is willing to offer for one year.
