Avery's wife finds trouble
Season-ticket holder says Cassandra Johnson pushed him, fiancée

PHOENIX – Two Phoenix Suns season-ticket holders said they filed a misdemeanor assault complaint against Cassandra Johnson, the wife of Mavericks coach Avery Johnson, on Tuesday.

A group of fans in Section 105 at US Airways Center, behind the visitors' bench, got into an argument with Cassandra Johnson in the late stages of the first quarter.

Jose Martinez, 34, and his fiancée, Rebecca Kettle, 32, said Cassandra Johnson became belligerent after she complained they were standing too much during play.

Martinez said Cassandra Johnson pushed him and his fiancée. Said Johnson: "I didn't touch him."

Ron Duranti, who was seated behind Cassandra Johnson, said she "took at least three swings at the woman." Duranti said the swings missed and she ended up making contact with the man.

Three other Suns fans within two rows of the scene supported Duranti's account.

"Some lady was getting pissed off because we were cheering for the Suns," said Martinez, who didn't know who Cassandra Johnson was until reporters told him. "She's dropping [expletives] and her two kids are crying."

Cassandra Johnson left her seat to get security. When she returned, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, team director of security Jim Colleran, strength and conditioning coach Robert Hackett and reserve center DJ Mbenga entered the stands to see what happened.

"[Kettle] got indignant," Cassandra Johnson said. "I went to tell security that this wasn't going to be a pleasant scene."

The two fans were being moved to seats closer to the court, but Kettle made two obscene hand gestures toward Johnson. Jon Bloom, director of security for the Suns, said the fans were escorted out of the arena because of the gestures. Kettle was crying as she talked with arena security and area police in the passageways.

"I heard something went on, but we've been in situations on the road before," Avery Johnson said. "When you are on the road, things happen. People throw stuff at you, so we'll see what happens. I haven't talked to her yet."

At halftime, Johnson left her seat with Colleran. Fans seated nearby yelled at her. Johnson returned to sit with a family friend and her two children and watched the game without further incident.

I doubt it.

Looks like someone might have proveoked her and $$$'s was the motive. At what point do the NBA actaully go after fans that look start trouble knowing what they are truly after.

Definitely wondering this too. If she's a dime, I'm on her side. LOL, I'm pretty sure she ain't as fine as I'm imagining but money sure does hook, line, and sinker a few dimes.......

I've never seen her but i'm sure she's someone that has been with him since day 1 back at Southern University.

Sincerely doubt that. How many people outside Dallas have any idea what Avery Johnson's wife looks like?
