Jim Mora Jr. - New Seahawks Coach (Once Holmgren is Done)

I thought he did a decent job in Atlanta and I was waiting for him to get another crack at a head coaching job. Seattle is a bit of a different place and atmosphere then Atlanta (where they haven't gone to the playoffs back to back years ever). Seahawks have been one of the most successful teams of the past few years. Hopefully he continues the trend.

Why does this have to be announced now? What happens if the secondary falls to the 23rd best in the league and the owner no longer wants to commit to Mora. Albeit an unlikely situation but what do you gain for announcing this a year in advance?

You gain the trust of the team.

You effectively have two Head Coaches on the team. Mora will most likely deflect all questions to Holmgren, but it gives the team a chance to transition to a new leader.

While Mora ran a hybrid-WCO in Atlanta, it is still very different from Holmgren's pure-WCO.

If the secondary faulters and drops, it would be a big shock since the GM and the incoming HC are both very defensive-mind when it comes to personal... I'm more worried about how our offense will shake out.

mora also had the odd job of trying to fit a system with vick. People blew in their pants thinking about vick in a WCO.

I think they committed to Mora early to keep him from interviewing with the Redskins or other jobs.

With Holmgren quitting after this year it will also add a sense of continuity to the organization that might help in signing free agents this off-season as well since they won't need to wonder who they'll be playing for.

I think it was a good decision by the Hawks.

TWO head coaches doesnt seem like a good idea to me.

What happens if the season goes bad or players that arent favorites of Holmgren start to lax knowing that he isnt going to be there next year?

It wont say it will definately be a failure but it just seems like bad idea by design
