The safeties always give away the coverage is the long short of it.

But for a little more in-depth, here is a link. On page 8 there are keys on progressions, what to look for pre-snap in fronts and in the secondary, etc.

As far as the mike is concerned it seems like the center typically points that out while the qb points out any potential blitzers. If the qb decides to audible the routes he probably has to audible the line formation because the center doesn't know if he wants to move the pocket by sliding it and rolling out. Just some added info for you. Most of what was said earlier was spot on

Interesting thread. I need to implement proper designations in my football game. Right now, the Center's Read Opp ability is the thing determining the linebacker blocking stuff. Wonder if I have that wrong.
