QUARTEBACKS ( BACK THEN) VS. QUARTERBACKS ( NOW)

IVE noticed one significant stat that has changed drastically with quarterbacks....do you know what it is? Well its completion percentage. If u look at the dan marino's and john elways they hardly ever got above 62% completion and even in college ball from the 90's to the begining 2000's qb's had difficulty with completing 60% of there passes. Why is this ?

The evolution of what's deemed "Pass Interference".

DBs can't touch WRs nowadays without fear of a flag being thrown.

IMO that's simplifying it too much and is the "excuse du jour", if you will, that people go to recently.

This alone does not account for the general rise for years of quarterback statistics. If you're going to point to just one thing that has had the most impact, I would argue that it's the West Coast style offense. Shorter, higher percentage passes that somewhat replace a part of the running game. That started it, and the evolution of those routes into more modern systems along with rule changes has continued the upward trend.

Might as well close the thread here.

It seems the majority of teams run the West Coast offense or a variation of it.

Evolution of the TE position. The TE position has now become a important part of the passing game. TE are now catching 90+ balls a year.

WR being bigger and taller than 15-20 years ago. Receivers 6'4"+ now grow on trees.

Rule changes to protect the QB and allow the WR to run wild through the secondary. Marino would average 4700+ yards, 40+ tds a year in today's game.

I think the samething bro....i think steve young and troy aikman would make aaron and tom brady unheard of if they played in todays game.
