Don't you usually clear this sort of thing well BEFORE you announce to the world that it's your team name? This couldn't possibly be off to a more comically bad start...
LOL! That's the NHL for you.

However, I believe the NHL will win this case as there are a number of teams that share the same moniker.
But nothing would make me happier than to see the NHL have to name a team twice before they even stepped on the ice!
I know, maybe name the team the Roughriders! (Or is it Rough Riders)

I watched my first NHL game with my boyfriend and my friend. Hurricanes at LA Kings. It was great.

First welcome to the OS team. I love the sport & have been a fan for many years now. Glad to hear you enjoyed it. I'm a canes fan so I was happy to see my team come out on top.

Thank you! Very much off topic, but when will I be able to make threads?

I love how fast it is. All those shots make me nervous.

Me too. My boyfriend's a North Carolina native, and my home state doesn't have an NHL team. I figured they were a good team to follow. Do you think they'll get into the playoffs this year?

Hey Stormy...you watch every Canes game?

I used to watch them when they were good during the Staal/Cole era right after '06 but my interest has tailed off considerably. Carolina is LAST in the league in attendance this year too, barely filling over half of their home games up.

Curious what your thoughts are? I've seen a few articles during the summer and creeping up more about them relocating because of said waning interest (as well as poor team play).

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

You will take your conditional pick from Arizona and like it.

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Leafs are technically icing a team with a cap hit under 50M(fyi, the cap FLOOR is 54M). But their cap hit is so high simply because of the buried contracts among other things(over 8M in buried contracts alone).

They're projected to finish the year at 85 points right now(3rd in their division is projected for 91pts).

That's a nice sign for the future. A young team who technically is under the cap floor, can average in the mid 80s in points. As things stand right now, going into the offseason, they could end up having over 15M in cap space, while really only needing 2 top 4 dmen and that's really it.

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Leafs are listening to offers on JVR.

Sharks and Kings as teams I could see as good fits for JVR. Though neither team I really see having any NHL ready dman they could trade for him, so it'd have to be prospects.

Or if Jets want to get in on it, Trouba would be a real good fit for the Leafs, and we all know he's not staying with the Jets long term either, maybe we could get a JVR-Trouba type deal.
