2 Player Game in Franchise Mode?

Is it possible to have two players play on the same team during Franchise mode? My buddy and I tried to do this the other day and couldn’t get it to work. Seems stupid to not be able to do it.

I have a hard drive and use that for saves. I do not have a memory card and I do not use Xbox live or the new rosters (I just fix my own.)

Just picked up mine at Best Buy. They had a couple more copies sitting there. (It's about 12:30) on Tuesday and the Best Buy was in Downers Grove, IL.
