Cutting real players in the pre-season does not delete them. Only deleting the $310,000 fake UDFA's causes the permanent oblivion thing.

I know because some of the $310,000 guys I cut in my chise...

As best as I can tell, any NCAA import player NOT drafted disappears completely. Big error in game design decision making. If they had just imported enough NCAA players, they could use those UDFA's...
