My theory was that priority was placed on things that earn the VC i.e. shoes

Spot on mate. The players with the "high school"build are devoid of any muscle definition. Just because these few NBA players a slimmer than most, does not mean they are anorexic.

The skinny highschool model brought over from 2k16 has to be one of the most dumbfounded decisions imaginable.
