Why can't I lead a receiver with a fast throw?

And I pressed DOWN on the joystick and a lob, and guess what? It went way farther than the receivers route. wtf? It should throw short

Why do my passes most of the time not lead the receiver, even though I'm moving the left stick all the way to the side? For example a receiver is running a post out, and the defender is trailing, but...
