What you are describing is another way to steal where you time the pitchers motion. Doing a simple L2 press and letting go will cue up the steal with the runner talking off automatically as the...

To cue it up, move the left stick to the right and hold it there while you press L2 and let go. The runner will take off when the pitcher starts his motion.
